Here's the Reader's Digest version of what I've been doing....
I lived for 2 years in Americus, GA (which is 10 miles from President Jimmy Carter's home.) For about 18 months I worked at the Fox TV affiliate in Albany, GA doing every job from master control op, to videographer, to reporter, to producer, to sports anchor. But, new owners took over and as happens, conditions at the station really changed, and for me they changed for the worse. So, I quit/got fired (depending on whom you talk to) and took a position with Habitat for Humanity International. You may remember that my wife got a position with them and that's what took us to Americus. For nine months I worked as a video producer and archive librarian and loved it. At the time it was a nice change of pace from TV news.
In the summer of '97, we packed up and moved to Atlanta so my wife could start work on her Masters of Divinity degree at Emory University. I spent about half a year freelancing before I got hired full-time at the Fox TV station in Atlanta as a video news editor. After awhile I then moved up to a position they call Tape Coordinator, which basically is the person who oversees the editing dept within the confines of a specific newscast. It was kind of a pseudo-management position, which gave me a lot of good experience being in charge of other people.
Robyn earned her degree in May 2000, and was ordained in the North Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church, which assigned her to the church in Hobart. I decided to take some time away from the media and re-evaluate what I want to do from here. So, since November, I've been working as a substitute teacher in Hobart as a way to get a taste for being in a classroom, and I've really been enjoying it. I like being with the kids (I'm doing all ages right now) and interacting with them in that environment. I have also been in contact with Purdue-Calumet to learn about their teacher licensing program.
