Jason Doty 1993
While in high school I was a finalist in the Indiana Project XL competition in the television commercial category. My involvement in the Jeff HS Radio-TV program introduced me to and prepared me for a career in the visual media. I went to I.U. with a great deal of hands-on experience. I have written and directed television commercials that have aired in the Lafayette market. I am currently in my final year of graduate school at Florida State University. While at Indiana University, I majored in Telecommunication and Film Studies. One of my previous films, Dinner 5:30 has been recognized at film festivals both nationally and internationally including the Rochester International Film Festival: Movies on a Shoestring. I was a semi-finalist at the Aspen Film Fest, and I won the Audience Award at the Indy Awards in Indianapolis. The film also won the Brian Freidman Award at I.U. Another award for Dinner 5:30 was the Best of Show award at the Hometown Cinema Film Festival.
My film Escape Back to the Movies won the $10,000 Grand Prize in the 2000 Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker competition. I was one of ten national finalists. This film was seen in theaters around the country before the feature film by an estimated 20-30 million people.
In the summer of 2001, my short film Run, and my thesis film Anderson, both won awards at the Indy Film Awards. I am currently working at Purdue University where I spend most of my time editing and putting together video presentations for the university. I still plan on heading west to Los Angeles when the time is right.
